Eyeline Match

This is a film editing technique which is commonly used to keep continuity in a sequence. Eyeline match is a technique based on the premise that the audience will want to see whatever the character that is onscreen is looking at. The technique begins with a character looking at something off screen, this is then followed by a cut to what the character is looking at. Eyeline match may also refer to how when two scenes are cut together it appears that they are looking at eachother, this is very useful during conversation. However there are factors that effect this rule such as 180 degree rule, this may interfere since the characters may sometimes look at something out of these 180 degrees thus one of these rules will need to be broken or the scene will need to be reworked.
Here are two examples of eyeline match contained within one scene
