Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

As a group we learnt about technology through actually using the equipment and learning about it during our media lessons,
Whilst we were making our preliminary task and our media film opening we had to use digital cameras, digital editing of sound, digital editing of images and lighting.
Whilst using the digital camera we finally learnt about proper use of framing. In our media opening we kept the antagonist in a position in the frame that made him seem most powerful an example of this is the shots of just his legs and lower body in frame creating enigma.
We learnt about a whole variety of different equipment that can go with the camera but the only equipment we in the end actually used in our film opening is a tripod and a steady cam, the steady cam was used for tracking shots whereas the tripod for static shots; but when we filmed the chase scene we used hand help to try and emphasise how hectic and intense this chase is.
During the walking corridor scene we also tried including a depth of field making the scene more spooky, we did this by focusing on the main character and sometimes altering between main character and background to make everything seem distorted further generating enigma.

Due to our set being an abandoned building it was very dark in some places but we liked the effect the natural light gave the setting so we decided to use a reflector to reflect the natural light directly onto the character so when we was on camera he wasn’t dark and hidden; we believe this was a great idea as the end result appeared successful and produced the product we intended.

When in post production editing we used two main software’s; ‘Garage Band’ and ‘Final Cut Pro’.

We began with ‘Final Cut Pro’ where we edited the clips we filmed and put them in order allowing a smooth viewing experience; we then scraped the sound and went onto ‘Garage Band’ where we found better new sound and re made every single sound you hear in the final product including Foleys and added a specific soundtrack over certain points; without learning this skill of editing at college I wouldn’t of been able to combine together a good fluent film opening.
